WebAssembly - A game changer for the Web

WebAssembly (WASM) is new emerging technology supported by leading browser development companies. It is developed at the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) with engineers from Mozilla, Microsoft, Google and Apple.

WebAssembly is a web standard that defines a binary format and a corresponding assembly-like text format for the executable code in Web pages. It is meant to enable executing code nearly as fast as running native machine code. It was envisioned to complement JavaScript to speed up performance-critical parts of web applications and later on to enable web development in other languages than JavaScript.

In this presentation I will explain the following:

  • What is WASM

  • How WASM brings together native and web applications

  • Benefits of WASM

  • The current state of WASM (where it’s now and where it's heading)

  • And exciting DEMOs (including Drupal integration)

This session will be of interest to web developers, JavaScript developers, front-end developers and anyone else interested in the future of Web Development.
